A New Butchery, Rooted in Old Traditions

We believe every neighbourhood needs a great local butcher to inspire, in choosing the right meat - to be wise with your cut and cooking, optimising your shopping dollars and minimising waste. Our great-grandfathers were village butchers in the early 1900s - but being born in the seventies, convenience was by then king: supermarkets were the go-to, the one-to-one connection to our food supply was diminishing as habits moved away from the corner store and the local butcher.

Honouring 600 Years of Skill in Every Cut

Our first kiwi food enterprise L’Authentique is the key inspiration in helping us develop The Waiheke Butcher.  Our partner Philippe is a third generation Charcutier - as kiwis have come back to ways of eating paddock to table, the traditional art of Charcuterie gives us all the education we need - 600 years of quality craftsmanship, love and respect for the animals and ethical farming practice. Here we are, opening our first butchery in 2025, in a site at Oneroa village that has been a butcher for a hundred years* - back to when our great-grandfathers were cutting, wrapping in butchers' paper, and giving the kids a free saveloy.

From Award-Winning foods to Village Butcher

Since 2013 we have been passionately involved in creating handmade foods and food brands - fresh pasta, bakery, pies and of course L’Authentique’s incredible pate and sausages. Our brands, having won over 40 food awards - the outstanding food producers, artisan awards, and national sausage competitions, are in stores nationwide - but it’s always our dream to get back to the village. To launch here, on the island we love to call home is perfect. We look forward to seeing you instore with our dedicated butchers.
